Hey #EmpathyHeroes, I don’t know about you, but I’m still reeling about the events in Charlottesville.
In case you missed the events of this past weekend, the Alt-Right, the KKK, white nationalists, neo-Nazi’s and other white supremacist groups decended on Emancipation Park in Charlottesville VA to protest the removal of a statue of Robert E. Lee.
Lee was a Confederate general. A hero to white supremacists and some Southern folk, but a painful symbol of oppression, slavery and racism to many others.
Counterprotesters arrived to take a stand against violence, discrimination and hatred. But the whole thing turned violent, with one counterprotester, Heather Heyer (32), being killed and several others wounded when a car plowed into the crowd of counterprotesters.
Two police officers also lost their lives that day when a helicopter crashed.
And when it comes to Empathy, I’m asking myself: How on Earth do I tackle such polarizing, violent issues in life AND in my documentary?
So I’m opening my doors to people who want to talk about their experience of what’s happening in the world these days.
